Holding in aggression, anyone? Let it out by shadowboxing, sparring and punching the bag at Seido Karate Hollywood Dojo’s Foxy and Fierce Kickboxing! This total body workout incorporates cardio, strength training, flexibility and agility to make the close-knit, all-female group of students lean, mean kickboxing machines.

“Generally people leave very calm and relaxed after they punch it out,” says Rashad Anwar, Co-Owner and instructor at Foxy and Fierce.  Founder Crystal Greene adds, "You’ll be dripping sweat with a smile on your face.”

Women tend to find the all-female dynamic more comfortable than mixed-gender classes, he adds. Even though the class has the same body-toning fitness benefits, it’s without the fear of injury. As Anwar puts it, “No one wants to get punched in the face!”

Location: Hollywood, CA

Classes Offered: Each kickboxing-based class targets a different area of the body. Daily class offerings are Ultimate Arms & Abs on Monday, Booty Blaster on Tuesday, Chest & Back Strength Workout on Wednesday, XtremeCore on Thursday, and Muay Thai/Conditioning (Kickboxing Technique) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Classes are open to all levels, and a beginner class is offered Sunday at 11:15 AM for newbies who want to work on technique.

What Makes It Such An Effective Workout? Each sweat-inducing workout is cardio heavy, and adds target conditioning to a different area of the body every day. Despite the hard work, however, students are smiling through the sweat. “It’s such a great workout because it’s fun,” says Anwar.

For anyone with a tough fitness goal and a looming beach deadline, Foxy and Fierce offers seven-week “bikini bootcamps” throughout the year. These programs add in measurements, nutrition advice and weekly meetings to the schedule of classes to keep participants on track to meet their bikini body goals (inquire to the Dojo for timing of these workshops).

Know Before You Go: New students should arrive 15 minutes prior to the first class to fill out paperwork. Restrooms and changing rooms are available onsite, locker rooms are not.

Familiarize yourself with Dojo rules prior to class, including turning cell phones off, removing jackets and hats, only barefoot or clean athletic shoes allowed on Dojo Floor, and always walking around the Dojo on the perimeter.

Location Details: The Seido Karate Hollywood Dojo is located on the second floor of a strip mall on Sunset and La Brea. Ample parking is available in the lot that the Dojo shares with businesses in this strip mall.

Not sure if kickboxing is for you? Contact the studio to sign up for a free first class. Sorry guys, Foxy and Fierce Kickboxing classes are open to females only.

Come Prepared With: Clean, indoor sneakers are required for class, and a water bottle is recommended (water is available for purchase as well). Although many students bring their own hand wraps and boxing gloves, the Dojo loans boxing gloves out to first time students. Gloves and wraps are also for sale on site.

Advice for first timers: “Come in and prepare to get a really solid workout, and prepare to go hard” says Anwar, “It’s going to be as challenging as you make it.”
