GoRecess Studio Spotlight: The Body Barre; Denver, CO

04.02.2014

Passionate about their barre classes due to how quickly they tone and tighten clients' bodies, the body barre is also adamant that there is no workout so great that you should repeat it every day. For that reason, they offer a variety of classes in addition to their signature barre class, the body barre, with each class focusing on different areas of the body and on achieving different goals to keep your body changing.

Clients come as much for the camaraderie the body barre fosters, as they do for the workouts, and they work at their "own best pace" or "own best level" in a welcoming, non-exclusive environment without being judged.

Locations: Denver & Highlands Ranch

Classes Offered: Below the Belt, Burn at the Barre, Cardio Hip Hop, and willpower & Grace

Co-Founders: Nadia Walker-Arnold & Jen Rehm

Why you should check it out: An ultra-feminine studio located in the basement of a non-descript office building, there is a definite yin and yang at the body barre that makes women of all different backgrounds, sizes, ages, and abilities feel welcome. the body barre prides itself on having a strong, feminine brand, without any pretension, and encourages women to celebrate and embrace their bodies, regardless of pant size.

Advice for first-timers: Barrre moves are notorious for being difficult to wrap your head around, because they are small and focused, unlike many of the exercises used in a traditional exercise setting. It takes a few classes to get comfortable with the concept of small movements, small weights, and isometric holds.

the body barre encourages new clients to have a sense of humor and to set one or two small goals for each workout. Those small victories will result in achieving larger goals; smaller pants, stronger legs, a firm seat, greater lung capacity, and more.

About the Instructors: body barre's passionate team includes instructors with a diverse background and broad variety of interests - from training women to compete in body building and fitness competitions, to dancing as a Las Vegas showgirl, to performing as professional cheerleaders!
